Hiro Development Group is an interesting name, with the word "Hiro" being unfamiliar to most. Why Hiro?
Several years back, at the turn of the century to be specific, a friend and coworker of mine introduced me to a fascinating book written by Neal Stephenson called "Snow Crash". I instantly fell in love with the novel's unique view of the future and its hero protagonist, Hiro Protagonist. Hiro is a self-proclaimed freelance hacker who is an elite developer within the internet's successor, the "Metaverse". The tone of the story obviously appeals to geeks and technology enthusiasts, but at the same time, Stephenson's highly detailed visualization and titillating usage of the English language captured my imagination and helped me instantly identify with both his mind and his imaginary world.
Hiro is also a character in one of my favorite TV shows, Heroes. Interestingly enough, both Hiro Nakamura and Hiro Protagonist are accomplished sword fighters. What does this have to do with me? Nothing. But the question of coincidence between the two characters comes to mind.
All things considered, one can waste much time drawing conclusions as to any deeper meaning to the incorporation of "Hiro" into our company name. There may be some similarity in what we do in developing quality web applications for the internet, as it exists today, to what the Hiro Protagonist character had accomplished in his younger "hacker" days, but the purpose is much more superficial. I like the character, and I like the name.
